Technique

How to perform Arch Hang

  1. Grasp a pull-up bar with a shoulder‑width overhand grip and hang at full arm extension, legs together, core lightly engaged, and head in a neutral position.
  2. Inhale to brace, then exhale as you depress and retract your shoulder blades, beginning the motion of a scapular pull while keeping your elbows straight.
  3. Continue pulling past the standard scapular‑pull height by driving your chest upward and slightly backward, allowing your torso to tip behind the vertical line of the bar.
  4. Simultaneously arch your upper and mid‑back, squeezing your glutes and pointing your toes so your body forms a gentle bow shape (rib cage lifted, hips pressing forward).
  5. Pause and breathe steadily in this arched hang for the prescribed time, maintaining straight elbows, active shoulder depression, and a smooth spinal extension without collapsing your lumbar region.
  6. Inhale as you reverse the movement under control - release the arch, let your torso tip forward to neutral, and allow your shoulder blades to glide back into a relaxed dead‑hang position before repeating for the desired repetitions.
