How to perform Cable Glute Medius Side Step

  1. Attach an ankle cuff to a low cable and fasten it around the ankle farthest from the weight stack.
  2. Stand sideways to the machine, grasping the support bar with your inside hand for balance and planting the uncuffed (inside) foot firmly on the floor.
  3. Slide the cuffed leg behind and across your planted leg toward the stack until the cable is taut; hinge slightly forward at the hips and brace your core.
  4. This is your starting position.
  5. Exhale as you sweep the cuffed leg out and away from the machine in a wide lateral step, uncrossing your legs and squeezing your outer glute to drive the movement.
  6. Pause briefly when your feet are hip‑ to shoulder‑width apart and the cuffed leg is fully abducted, keeping your torso stable and knee soft.
  7. Inhale as you control the cuffed leg back behind and across the planted leg to the starting position without letting the weights touch, then repeat for the recommended repetitions before switching sides.
