How to perform Lean Away Lateral Line Stretch

  1. Stand sideways next to a sturdy wall or doorframe with your right shoulder closest to it.
  2. Reach your right hand overhead and grasp the frame or place your palm high on the wall for support.
  3. Cross your left foot behind your right, keeping both legs mostly straight and feet flat on the floor.
  4. Brace your core and lengthen through the crown of your head.
  5. Inhale to grow tall, then exhale as you lean your hips gently away from the wall, creating a smooth “banana” curve down your right side from fingertips to heel.
  6. Keep your chest facing forward and avoid arching your lower back. Hold the side-bend stretch, breathing deeply and feeling the length along your right lats, rib cage, obliques, hip, and outer thigh.
  7. Maintain a light grip on the wall for balance without yanking on your shoulder. After the recommended duration, inhale as you guide your torso back to upright, uncross your legs, and release your hand from the wall.
  8. Turn so your left shoulder is next to the wall, switch the cross of your feet, and repeat the sequence on the opposite side.
