Also called Seated Triceps Press
Technique
How to perform Seated Dumbbell Overhead Tricep Extension
- Sit on a bench with back support and plant your feet flat on the floor, holding a single dumbbell vertically with both palms cupping the inner plate above your head and arms fully extended.
- Keep your elbows pointing forward and close to your ears, chest lifted, and core braced; this is your starting position.
- Inhale as you bend your elbows to slowly lower the dumbbell in an arc behind your head until your forearms are just past parallel to the floor, feeling a stretch in your triceps.
- Exhale as you contract your triceps to press the dumbbell back up along the same path until your arms are fully extended without locking your elbows.
- Repeat for the prescribed repetitions, maintaining a steady tempo and avoiding any sway or arch in your lower back.
