Technique

How to perform Standing Cable Wood Chop

  1. Attach a single D-handle to a high cable pulley and stand sideways to it, far enough away to keep the cable under tension.
  2. Take the handle with both hands above the pulley-side shoulder and keep a small, fixed bend in your elbows.
  3. Draw the handle diagonally down across your body toward the opposite knee, turning your hips and torso with the movement.
  4. Allow the trailing foot to pivot and bend your knees slightly as the handle travels downward.
  5. Keep the arms long without turning the movement into an elbow curl, and avoid collapsing forward through the trunk.
  6. Return along the same diagonal path under control, straightening the legs and turning back toward the pulley.
  7. Repeat for the chosen repetitions, then change sides.
