Technique
How to perform Standing Military Press
- Set the barbell on a rack near upper-chest height and take an overhand grip just outside shoulder width.
- Move under the bar, support it across the front of your shoulders and stand to lift it from the rack.
- Step back and plant your feet about shoulder width apart, with the bar at upper-chest height.
- Brace your torso and press the bar overhead without dipping your knees or using leg drive, moving your head clear of the bar's path.
- Finish with your arms extended and the bar balanced above your shoulders, allowing your head to return beneath it.
- Lower the bar under control to the front of your shoulders and repeat; return it to the rack when finished.
