Practical context
Compare your squat, bench press, deadlift, or overhead press with bodyweight-based strength standards. The calculator estimates a one-rep max when needed, reports your bodyweight multiple, assigns a broad training category, and gives you the next useful strength target.
A weight on the bar means more when it is considered beside the lifter moving it. A 225-pound bench press is a different relative-strength achievement for a 150-pound lifter than it is for a 250-pound lifter. This strength standards calculator divides your estimated one-rep max by your body weight so the comparison remains useful across different body sizes.
Use the result as a training landmark, not a permanent label. Your category can change with technique, practice, body weight, recovery, and the amount of time you have trained a specific lift.
If you know a recent, technically sound one-rep max, enter it directly. Otherwise, enter a weight and repetition count from a hard set. The calculator uses the Epley equation to estimate what that set suggests you could lift once: estimated 1RM = weight x (1 + reps / 30).
Rep estimates are most useful with lower-repetition sets performed close to your normal limit. As repetitions climb, local fatigue, conditioning, pacing, and exercise technique introduce more uncertainty. You do not need to test a true max merely to use this page.
Relative strength is especially helpful when comparing athletes of different sizes or tracking a lift while your body weight changes. Absolute strength still matters, but a bodyweight ratio answers a different question: how much weight can you move relative to the mass you carry?
A gaining phase can increase the load on the bar while leaving the ratio similar. During a cut, maintaining the same lift at a lower body weight can improve the ratio. Read both the estimated max and bodyweight multiple rather than chasing either number in isolation.
These broad standards organize common gym milestones. They are not powerlifting records, meet classifications, or promises about what every lifter should achieve.

The calculator uses a separate set of broad female standards for the same four barbell lifts. Training age, technique, limb proportions, equipment, and exercise variation still affect the result.

Beginner means you are building the base of the lift and can usually progress through frequent technique practice and consistent training. Novice means you have moved past the earliest learning stage but still have substantial room for straightforward progress.
Intermediate is a solid gym standard that normally requires planned progression rather than adding weight every session. Advanced means you are strong relative to your body weight and further progress is slower. Elite is an exceptional bodyweight-relative result, not a requirement for productive training or good health.
These standards compare a lift with body weight and sex-specific thresholds. They are not age-graded records, so adding age would imply a precision this model does not provide.
Age can affect recovery, training history, and expected rate of progress, but it does not change the arithmetic used on this page. Use age and experience as personal context when interpreting the category.
Compare like with like. A competition-depth barbell squat, touch-and-go bench press, trap-bar deadlift, and strict overhead press do not represent identical tasks. Use the same exercise variation and technique when monitoring progress over time.
Do not let a category push you into unsafe max attempts. A stable estimated max from repeatable training sets is more useful than a technically poor personal record. If the next category is far away, turn it into smaller programming goals.
