One-Arm Handstand Flag
Technique
How to perform One-Arm Handstand Flag
- Kick or press into a solid freestanding handstand with both hands shoulder-width apart, elbows locked, shoulders stacked over wrists, and your body in a tight hollow line.
- Slowly open your legs into a wide straddle, squeezing your glutes and quads to lower your center of mass and improve stability while keeping your toes pointed.
- Shift your hips and shoulders laterally toward the support hand, pressing harder through that palm and fingertips as your torso and hips “flag” over; keep the opposite arm straight but begin peeling its fingers lightly from the floor.
- Continue transferring weight until the free hand bears almost no load, then lift it completely off the ground and tuck it across your torso or behind your back, maintaining square shoulders, straight elbows, and full-body tension.
- Hold the one-arm flag handstand for the prescribed duration, making micro-adjustments with the supporting fingers, actively depressing the base shoulder, and keeping your ribs tucked to prevent lower-back arch.
- To exit, gently place the free hand back on the floor, shift your hips and shoulders back to center, close the straddle if desired, and cartwheel or step down safely under control and repeat on the other side.
