Technique

How to perform Straddle Maltese Box Press

  1. Place two stable plyo boxes side by side with room for your body between them and support under your shoulders and arms.
  2. Lay your straight arms across the tops with your palms flat on the boxes.
  3. Press into the supports and lift your feet clear; as your hips clear the tops, straighten your knees and open your legs into a straddle.
  4. Keep the straddle shape and elbows straight as you press through your shoulders to bring your hips above your head.
  5. Continue through the supported arc toward vertical without turning it into a bent-arm press.
  6. Reverse the arc under control while maintaining the body shape, then repeat.
  7. Return your feet to the floor before releasing the supports.
